Beautiful moments here today at the Pedro tea plantation with Emmie learning how to pick the light green buds from this lovely, kind lady. Workers are given accommodation, schooling for their children and medical support and pick 13 kilos of leaves (three to four bags) each day for 600 rupees - just over $5 AUD - that they use for food and clothing. Women pick the leaves and men do the weeding and fertilising. They share traditional communal housing called lime houses. If they pick more they can earn more, but it takes around seven hours to pick the minimum - sun, drizzle and rain. It's hard work, but they have their families close and work a five day week. I keep comparing to my old life where I also worked hard - just behind a desk, and while I earned good money it was often spent on buying stuff that has no meaning, and there was never enough time for family and friends. I think sometimes we feel pity for others but maybe they should be feeling sorry for us and the way of life we've created... . . . . . . #srilanka #traveltime #traveltheworld #openmyworld #familyfun #escape #besttimes #funtimes #worldschooling #travelfam #travelwithkids #familytravel #kidstravel #travelkids #holidayswithkids #takemethere #templetime #travelgram #travelbuddy #traveldiary #mytravelgram #ouradventure #lpkids #travelmum #roamfree #traveltheworld #letsgoeverywhere #olympusinspired #LiveTravelChannel #srilankan
